35 km from Rostock and Warnemünde, Kühlungsborn has developed into the largest and now probably most attractive Baltic Sea resort in Mecklenburg. the 6 km long fine sandy beach and the shallow Baltic Sea allow even children to splash and frolic safely. The more than 4 km long beach promenade, Germany's longest, leads past dunes, thatched cafés and playgrounds and is just as inviting for long walks as the 133 ha city forest directly behind the beach or the beautiful unspoilt nature of the "Kühlung", a landscape conservation area in the hinterland.
The Ostseeallee, a promenade, connects the two districts of Kühlungsborn West and East and leads from Baltic-Platz, Kühlungsborn's "largest balcony", to the 240 m long pier and the marina, which has become a lively new attraction with many small bars and cafés. Like a string of pearls, one old villa follows the next on Ostseeallee between the beach and the city forest. The magnificent Art Nouveau façades have been lovingly restored, the faded splendour polished up again, and new buildings successfully integrated into the cityscape: No high-rise buildings look down on Art Nouveau villas here!
The two concert gardens in the east and west offer a varied entertainment programme in the season, there are regular excursions on the Baltic Sea from the pier, there is a seawater swimming pool in the east district, and there is a new leisure hall in the west district.
Excursions in the immediate vicinity include Heiligendamm, the "White City by the Sea" (Germany's oldest seaside resort, founded in 1793 and "reopened" in 2003), Bad Doberan with its famous cathedral, or the seaside resort of Warnemünde - a stroll there along the "Old River" with its many small shops, restaurants and pubs, as well as the many excursion boats, is highly recommended (approx. 30 km)! And if you stay here longer, you should not miss out on a visit to the neighbouring Hanseatic cities of Rostock (approx. 35 km) or Wismar (approx. 40 km).
